This house was built in 1976. The original aluminum siding was fading and coming loose. The original windows were leaking a significant amount of air. The owner knew it was time to replace the siding and windows. The owners researched many different exterior products. Hardie siding was the best option to add curb appeal to their home. Provia vinyl replacement windows were the perfect solution to the energy loss. Hardie house wrap was installed to create a thermal barrier. The replacement windows were installed and sealed to the new Hardie wrap. Hardieplankcedarmill siding was installed. The color of this home is Gray Slate. Crown headers were installed above the front windows and doors. This detail made a huge difference to the final appearance. Here is a closer look at the Hardie 2" roof clearance detail. Hardie requires a 2" clearance between the siding and roof. Color matched flashing is used to create a better appearance. They also require a kickout flashing to divert the water from the roof into the gutter. Failing to install this flashing will cause staining on the siding below. Many siding companies don't correctly install these details. This can void your Hardie warranty. Consult your siding contractor to see if they use the correct flashing and clearance details.
This photo shows the new garage door trim. The crown header detail matches the front windows. All trim was replaced including the jambs and weatherstripping. This is great way to accent doors and windows. Not all siding companies are capable of correctly installing this much detail.
